Going into this reading, I was excited to read Metamorphoses because I had already thoroughly enjoyed reading it backstage with Sophie and making connections to our show during tech week. Having worked on the show and having read a little of Metamorphoses with Sophie, reading it this week was a lot of fun. Going into this assignment, I also had no idea how the several texts we would be reading related or connected to each other. It was interesting to see how certain events or themes that existed within metamorphoses were also represented in the other texts we read and how, overall, each text had a different take on the creation of the world, humans, and spirituality. It was interesting to see how certain events such a the war with giants and a great flood were present throughout multiple texts, yet differed slightly in their explanations of how these events happened. In Metamorphoses, Zeus causes a great flood to wipe out civilization with the help of other gods and it is only Deucalion and Pyrrha who remain afterward whereas, In Genesis, God wipes out civilization with a great flood after instructing Noah to save himself, his family, and 2 animals of each kind. These events and trends made me wonder about each the order in which the texts were written and how they influenced each other.

11/14/2019 0 Comments First Term ReflectionThis semester in lit has already challenged me in unexpected yet beneficial ways. In the first few weeks, I struggled slightly as I adjusted to the dynamic of the classroom as well as a classroom setting in which we were not provided the right answers, but rather asked to find and discuss them. While I deeply appreciated this class structure from the very beginning, it is still not something I have encountered often throughout high school, even at a place like Galloway. It took a while for me to find my footing, and while some days are still more challenging than others, the last few weeks, I have finally been feeling more confident in my contributions to class and feel as though I am really growing in my close reading and analyzing skills.
Lately, I wondering and struggling with how these two pieces of literature connected to each other. While I can see many co-existing themes, the assignment in which we had to consider Greenblatt and Scott in a conversation with one another was particularly challenging, I think because I felt odd to consider these arguments outside the context of their own selves and in comparison to one another. I felt lost all over again and had no idea what they would have said to one another or how they would have agreed or countered each other.
